Albert “Jay” Widmer, Jr., graduated from the LSU Law Center in 1977 and has been practicing law throughout the New Orleans area for over 30 years. Courtney Schroeder graduated from Loyola University of New Orleans College of Law in 2006 and worked for Jefferson Parish Juvenile Court for 10 years as Supervising Court Attorney and law clerk for the Honorable Judge Andrea Price Janzen. While at Jefferson Parish Juvenile Court, Courtney handled adoptions, child in need of care, delinquency, and child support cases.
Jay has been a fellow of the Academy of Adoption & Assisted Reproduction Attorneys for more than five years. The AAAA is the largest professional organization of its type. It includes approximately 470 attorneys, law professors, and judges who are recognized as Fellows. Fellows, like Jay, must be licensed for at least five years and have acted as counsel in at least 50 adoption proceedings, including ten interstate (ICPC) placements, within two years of being invited to join the Academy. Fellows consistently further their legal education by staying current in regards to adoption law, medical advances, and best practices.
Jay and Courtney have handled hundreds of adoptions including private adoptions, intrastate adoptions, intrafamily adoptions, foreign adoptions and adoptions of foreign orphans.
